Algenon Cuthbert Goyle Profile
Age: 41 Date of Birth: 04/12/1958 Blood status: Full blood. That rumor about his grandfather was made up by their enemies. House: Slytherin Wand: It had been a walnut wand:length is just shy of eleven inches long with a hippocampus mane core. It was confiscated after the 2nd war. Sexual orientation: Straight. Certainly. Never considered any other possibility. Physical Description: Was always a big guy. Has had to work hard (and invest in some discreet charms) to keep on the muscular side of "big" instead of the pudgy side of "big."
Hobbies: There's a wizarding game called "King's Table" played among many of the old wizarding families. Most of his associates take it a bit too seriously, but Algernon enjoys playing it with his wife on cold, rainy afternoons. Likes/Dislikes: Dislikes leftist leanings and cloyingly affectionate behaviors. Likes his estate and fresh plums. Quirks: Dyslexic. Rubs at an old scar on his left hip when he's discomforted (and not controlling the impulse) Fears: He's afraid of what comes next: that he'll spend the rest of his life rotting in jail, that he'll be essentially alone for the rest of his life, and that there's nothing good left to look forward to. Patronus: Norwegian Fjord Horse Quidditch Position: Beater, as a youth. Occupation: Business. Just business. The movement of goods and labor.
Mother: Tegan Callidora Goyle nee Avondale, fullblood, died shortly after giving birth to a daughter (from complications, probably involving pain pain-relieving potions). Father: Caelum Donal Goyle, fullblood, was still alive as of the 2nd wizarding war, enjoying a semi- retirement. He has been untraceable since the war ended. Siblings: A younger brother, August, who died in an accident 12 years ago, and a younger sister who died before his parents even officially named her. Personality: Algernon is an alpha male. He likes having weight to throw around, and despite being a big guy, he's come to prefer doing it figuratively. He's confident, even if he isn't flash, like some pale bastards that he knows. He believes in running his business, providing roof, shelter, etc for his family, and spending time in the right company, for no reason except that "that's what you do". He is not terribly reflective and all the time on his hands in prison is... disconcerting.
History:
Algernon was a well-born pure blood of a and his early life followed a very expected path, and besides some mild concern over his size (the healers tsked about the strain on his heart and shored up the strength of his joints), there were no major upsets in his life.
After graduation, he learned about Voldemort's purity movement, which he thought was remarkably apropos, even if he wouldn't have done anything radical on his own. His wife, Arminel Goyle nee Ravenswood convinced him that the Death Eaters were an excellent social connection (like a gentlemen's club). The violence hardly bothered him, really. Still, when Voldemort was defeated, he wasn't all that upset. He still had his alliances from the club, and Voldemort was rather a fancified, pushy git when you got right down to it.
After many quiet years of running his business and letting his family get on with things, old Snake Eyes shows up, twice as crazy, demanding everyone hops back on the wagon. After weighing his options, Algernon decides to back the winning horse, so to speak. Unfortunately for him, Voldemort loses the war and most of his supporters end up a)dead, b)imprisoned, or c)hiding from extradition. Including most of his family. His wife was killed (possibly by friendly fire), and both Algernon and his only son, Goyle, were imprisoned in Azkaban.
The only bright spot, dim as it is, is that the winning side didn't trust the dementors as far as they could throw them and Azkaban is instead being guarded by wizards and a plethora of very strong wards. While it does mean that Algernon isn't in constant dementor-induced misery, wizards don't really have human rights laws and the guards have a lot of power.
